What belongs to a maintenance item
SAP documentation shows that a maintenance item can hold the technical object, maintenance plan and strategy reference, planning plant, order or notification type, and an assigned task list. The task list can define work steps, parts, tools and expected completion time.
Why it is separate from the plan
The maintenance plan controls scheduling logic, while the item identifies the maintainable scope and the work context. Keeping those roles distinct allows planners to assign existing items to plans and manage recurring maintenance for assets in a controlled way.
