Direct answer

A sales operations professional can build a strong SAP-transition portfolio without inventing configuration experience. Use anonymized examples of order-to-cash processes, customer or pricing exceptions, business controls and testable requirements. For each example, distinguish what you actually performed from what you have studied about SAP S/4HANA Sales.

What the hiring manager needs to see

A useful portfolio shows business process literacy, evidence of careful problem-solving and the ability to communicate with sales, supply chain, finance and technology teams. It does not need a simulated list of every SAP transaction. A clear two-page case can be more persuasive than a large binder of generic screenshots.

Choose an issue you can explain from first principles: incorrect customer master information, a disputed price, a blocked order, a delivery-date conflict or an invoice mismatch. Remove customer names, prices, proprietary data and personal information before documenting anything.

Four portfolio pieces worth creating

Process map: sketch the path from enquiry or order to confirmation, delivery, billing and follow-up. Mark owners and decision points. Exception note: show the symptoms, probable causes, data checks and business consequences of a real issue. Test scenario: write initial conditions, the action or business event, and expected versus actual outcomes. Reflection: state what you know from experience, what SAP terminology you are learning, and what needs validation with a practitioner.

For SAP context, study how sales functions structure documents and how pricing condition records influence orders. Do not claim you configured SAP pricing merely because you have investigated pricing discrepancies in another system.

Four compact evidence pieces can show domain judgment while keeping SAP experience claims accurate.

Worked example: a disputed discount

A key account reports a discount mismatch between the quote and invoice. Your case could map the document handoffs, specify which master or contract terms should be reviewed, and show a test where an approved discount must be reflected consistently. Capture how you would escalate when finance and sales disagree on the expected amount.

Explain the business consequence: a slow resolution can delay cash, frustrate the customer and create reconciliation work. The demonstration is your disciplined analysis; it is not a claim that you personally changed SAP condition records.

Make the portfolio trustworthy

Use a consistent case format: context, scope, process, decision, evidence, limits and next learning step. Include only diagrams and data you have permission to use. Label hypothetical scenarios clearly, verify terminology from official SAP material, and avoid presenting mock screens as real SAP screenshots. Practice telling the story in three minutes and be ready for follow-up questions.
